In the words of the families we work with.
Feedback shared by parents, carers and foster families across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire — about youth clubs, SEND sessions, mentoring, boxing, HAF and crisis support.
My 3 boys go to youth club and have the best time, the staff are lovely and friendly and always make my boys laugh. Also during half term they do amazing day trips and have fun activities planned.
Everyone at Gather always goes above and beyond. I can't thank you all enough for all your incredible work and support.
My three daughters ages 13, 11 and 7 all attend Gather at Fenton and Knutton for youth club, SEND sessions and HAF.
My eldest and youngest are both neurodivergent and Gather staff have fully accepted and adapted to their needs so that they can attend all sessions. My youngest is especially difficult to keep entertained and she loves the Knutton SEND sessions.
There is always something for the girls to do. They thoroughly enjoy the HAF sessions that aren't only fun but are a sport focused day encouraging fitness for young children which is amazing while they are off school.
Most importantly, my girls have formed amazing relationships with all of the staff. They all feel safe and can talk to staff about anything they are struggling with, which is a big thing for my eldest daughter who finds it difficult to form relationships.
Gather has had such a positive impact on my family. I can let my children stay somewhere without worrying that their needs won't be met. I recommend Gather to all of my friends for their children too.
We initially came across Gather through the Aiming High offering. Over the past year Gather have become a key part of our support network.
When the chips have been down Gather have been right by our side ready to signpost and support. From a listening ear to helping get Christmas presents for the boys when one of them had been in hospital for surgery right before Christmas.
Not only that, it's been an absolute pleasure to see two shy little boys flourish in confidence — from being nervous to attend one session a month, to accessing multiple sessions a week including youth clubs, boxing and Aiming High sessions, growing in confidence and becoming members of the Gather community.
In the words of my ten year old with SEND needs: “I have found somewhere I fit in at Gather and feel safe, that's why I like boxing now!”
I would just like to say thank you so much for how you help mentor my son — not just in his boxing, which he just won his first official fight in, but all the support leading up to it. The patience, kindness and realness you are with him is what he needs, with him being as complex as he can be having ADHD.
Not only have you supported him with his sport and building his confidence, but also his education — offering support as a mentor, arranging his tutor and getting him an education when his own school and local council failed him. He will soon have his functional skills, when last year I didn't think he would get any education.
I can't thank you all enough at Gather Community for what you have done for him.
We found Gather Community when our family was in crisis with our foster son. They provided sanity and comfort when I didn't think I had anything left in the tank.
What they do to support the children is beyond what I have experienced anywhere else. My complex needs foster children feel safe and secure with the team at Gather and I hope to have their support for the foreseeable.
